Don’t wait for other people’s permission
By Sérgio Ferrás

I was talking to my best friend, and just realized that I keep on waiting for other people’s permissions to do things that I want to do. In every area of my life
I invite people to things that I want to do, and then wait for their response to decide if I’m going to buy the tickets or not
I suggest an activity I want to do, and then wait for them to decide yes or no before I do what I want
I suggest a new system for the company that will improve efficiency or sales, and wait for somebody else’s approval for me to proceed, even though I have all the resources and decision-making power to make it happen!
And that keeps me blocked. I can’t move forward. I leave open loops for DAYS on decisions that should take 30 seconds to make
And so it hit me, these are things that I WANT TO DO, but maybe the other person doesn’t. Or they can’t. Or they simply don’t care
And I was just stuck on their loops, on their decisions, on their own timeline!
Finally, I got to the conclusion that you should not be stuck on other peoples loops
Do not wait for other people’s decisions on something you want to do.
That event you wanna go to? Book it! Then invite the people you would love to go with, but let them know it’s ok if they don’t go
That weekend activity you wanna do? Plan for it! If your friends can come, great! If not, you’ll still enjoy it for yourself
Waiting for other people’s permissions is what keeps us from moving forward on our goals, dreams and day-to-day
Don’t live your life on other people’s timelines, live it on your own!
