I don’t know what I’m doing
Written by Sérgio Ferrás

I don’t know what I’m doing, and yet know exactly what has to be done
This is probably one of the most contradicting thoughts I’ve ever had
Last week, I was speaking with a candidate that honestly felt like the perfect fit for our company. Knew sales, had previous entrepreneurship experience and knew how to handle tough situations.
I rushed to speak to my Co-Founder! “We may have found the one!”
30 mins later, the chips were down. My Co-Founder didn’t like the profile at all, and we seemed to be in complete disagreement over who we needed to hire.
And so it hit me – I know exactly what needs to be done! We need to hire someone with sales experience
But I had no idea what I was doing. I was somehow doing a terrible job filtering through the profiles to get to the person with the right profile and personality for our needs
In that moment, only one thing was certain – “you are probably going to fail big time, and that’s ok“
Failing is part of the process. The more mistakes we make, the more we learn.
But the real failure, the most scaring one? That’s STOPPING!
From now on, I will acknowledge that “I don’t know what I’m doing and yet know what has to be done“
And that’s perfectly fine, as long as I keep on moving forward, and learning every day

Indecision hurts more than bad decisions
“You are this company’s bottle neck!” This is what my cofounder told me earlier this week. As hard as it was to swallow that pill, he was right. Being a perfectionist, I tend to want to do everything myself. Every time I’m faced with a decision, I think and rationalize it. I try to do …
