You do not want balance in your life!

You do not want balance in your life!

The other day I was chatting with ChatGPT about my life goals. Being a successful entrepreneur and businessman, a 5.0 level tennis player, while being a present husband, son, uncle, and everything in between.

It didn’t take more than 5 prompts for it to suggest a very strict schedule of training, deep work, meeting hours, family time, free time.

It layed out a full plan that filled out my day, Monday through Friday, and let some time occupied with my Saturdays and Sundays!

Schedule suggested by ChatGPT

Sounds amazing right? I also thought so!

But then I started thinking – what happens if I’m stuck in traffic for 1h?

What happens when on a random Saturday I want to spend the entire day with my family, and not play tennis at all?

What if some days I just feel like working the entire day for a big project and don’t really want to do all of the rest?

This schedule would have been an authentic prison! I would have felt forced to follow this, hour by hour, almost minute by minute

We all need boundaries in our life – some direction we need to follow. For the most part, I always get to the office every day before 7am!

But even though I do that, I don’t want to be a slave to my schedule. I get up earlier because it helps me achieve my goals – it makes me be the person I want to be!

I have time to practice Italian, meditate, if I want have a tennis match at 7 or 8am, and still get to the office by 9.

Now, why do I not want balance in my life? Because balance is a prison! You try to pack your schedule with every single thing you remember you need to do, and you completely forget you’re a human. You start treating yourself as a robot.

So what should we aim for instead?

Rhythm is the answer! You want to be able to move as swiftly as possible.

In my case, I want to be able to spend a healthy amount of time with my family, progress on my business and get better at tennis. Some weeks one become more important than others, and I don’t let a schedule define that!

I go to where life calls me. And all I do, is to keep my momentum going.

So if you really want to keep going without feeling like you’re stuck in a routine you hate, forget about balance in your life. Start aiming for rhythm!

Choose the things that allow to keep going at a steady pace, but don’t make them your life prison
